No cover-grid view for books on device?

When in Device view, I noticed that Cover-Grid doesn't work. Is this normal?

On DEVICE???

Cover grid is part of the Main GUI (the squares in the lower corner) LIBRARY VIEW only

Yor Device may Generate its own. If that is your issue, ask in the specific Device forum, not Calibre

When a device is plugged into Calibre, the toolbar shows both a Library button and a Device button. In Library "view", the cover-grid works, but in Device "view", only the list view is available. Even in the device view, the book details pane can show the correct covers so technically, cover-grid should be possible.

Not a big deal, but the cover-grid view is more kid-friendly. Also being in device-view is safer when deleting books from the device.

Always been that way.

The Data that make this work is linked directly to the books metadata.

In device view;
There is no direct linkage (and the round about way is way complex)

books can be on the device that are NOT in the library

Despite the complexity, covers shows up in the book details pane. As for books not in the library, such as device dictionaries, a generic book icon is shown.
