Anthology Featuring MobileRead Authors
Over in the writing forum we're tossing around a new idea. It's an anthology of short stories inspired by the works of Edgar Allan Poe. All members of the forum and their friends (and whoever else) are allowed to submit for consideration in the anthology. Ideally, I'd like to include 22 short stories in the book. It will be posted for free on the upload page and probably linked as a free/creative commons work in other ebook distributors.
If this takes off and people like it, I'd love to do other ones featuring public domain works in our library here. Don't write but can make pretty pictures? The same guidelines apply! Submissions will close March 1, 2010. Hopefully it will be put out to the masses by the end of March. Full guidelines appear below. Here's a list of MR Authors that have already decided to play with us! Jaxx6166 MoeJoe Ficbot Montsnmags Elfwreck Maybe a mod can make this more visible? Quote:

This is an excellent idea. Excellent choice in Poe as well. I can already think of a plot I would use if I were actually any good at writing.

I'll submit something! Do I we have to officially sign up or just submit when we are done writing?

Excellent! I'll happily contribute kisses, donuts, and llamas to each of the participants! Man, I have been spending way too little time in the Writer's Corner these days.

Is there any flexibility in the length requirement, specifically shorter works? MUCH shorter works (that are good, obviously )?

Hello, fellow Poe-Heads, of which I count myself as one.
The contest looks very good, indeed. With my fellow Poe-Heads in mind, I assembled an LRF ebook that I'll upload as soon as I finish writing this note. It's VOLUME ONE, of "The Works of Edgar Allan Poe," available on MobileRead for your delectation and to give some of you INSANE ideas for your writing contest. It's only in the LRF format and, because at the present time only VOLUME ONE is completed, there are only a few stories in it. It's TOCed, of course, and with hyperlinked notes when they occur in the texts. Here are the contents: Edgar Allan Poe Death Of Edgar A. Poe The Unparalleled Adventures Of One Hans Pfaal The Gold-Bug Four Beasts In One—The Homo-Cameleopard The Murders In The Rue Morgue The Mystery Of Marie Roget The Balloon-Hoax Ms. Found In A Bottle The Oval Portrait There are 8 short stories here. Have fun! Don (Please let me know of any formatting problems.) |
