Kindle Fire HD 8 6th Gen - backing up collections
I've done some searching online but haven't been successful in finding the answer. My Kindle Fire battery is not holding a charge very long anymore so it appears I need to get a new one. Happy to do so, but I spent a lot of time creating collections and would like to avoid having to do all that work again.
Is there a way to backup the collections that I have created and restore those collections to a new Fire? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

for most amazon hardware, collections are stored in amazon cloud, so backup should be automatic and restore should be simple
for your specific model and generation, i suggest query with amazon or amazon forums or google searches. finding other users here with an exact match of model AND generation AND collections may be tricky |

Are those collections that are stored in the cloud based on everything in the collections regardless of whether the books were obtained through Amazon or if they were side-loaded?

amazon collections only manage the books you buy from them
how do you add sideloaded books to collections on your Fire tablet? PS feel free to study all of this but its not good news https://www.bookrunch.com/news/4_way...ons_on_kindle/ Last edited by stumped; 04-14-2020 at 04:07 AM. |

If calibre already has the collections data, it can send that to any device that is able to use it.
Be sure to have a calibre back up somewhere. But once you start rearranging stuff on the device, using device menus, calibre will not know about those changes. I don't think there is any simple way to send them in the other direction. |

AFAIK calibre does not have the concept of collections.
So you must be sending books from calibre then assignng them to collections on the fire tablet, after they arrive But you could maybe use calibre tags to record collections ? I.e.add each collection name as a tag to all the books in the collection. Then you have a record, in calibre. Use the bulk edit metadata options to set those tags. Check the previous Reddit link, but I don't think you can easily backup what you have done on the device. Amazon does auto backup the tablet and will offer to restore your account settings on a replacement tablet but dunno what is included in that. Probably, no sideloaded stuff of any kind. Maybe as a last resort you can take some screenshots of what is in your hand made collections and work from those to make new ones ? |

Thanks for your help/advice. It's a shame there isn't an easy way to do this if at all.
