Need Step By Step Guide to Getting Library eBooks for a K3

Could someone please provide me with a step by step idiot's guide to reading public library books (Overdrive) on a Kindle latest version? I found something posted in 2008 about 'Python' and 'Igor's scripts', but I'm not sure how to get 'Igor's scripts', or whether it would work on a K3. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

This is probably not the appropriate subforum for the question. It might be better in the main Kindle/amazon forum or even calibre forum.

BUT, big BUT... no one can provide specific instructions to do the required removal of DRM (the coding that locks up epub (generally) library books (which is different than the drm on Amazon's own books)

But first you need a library account, then you need to download the reader application that actually allows attaining and reading the books on your computer. One thing - most of what you initially download from a library is a token for the book download and not the book. It is a small acsm (or some mix of initials) file. The reader program uses that to actually get the book.

Then you need to explore Apprentice Alf blog, particularly the comments or use a search for "Tools" or perhaps "3.1" And, yes, it does involve python but readme files will show the way. Not always simple.

Or you can get a Sony or other epub-able reader.

The kindlefix approach (Igor's scripts) was only for OverDrive MOBI ebooks, and anyway does not, so far as I know, work with the Kindle 3.

Most OverDrive lending library ebooks are now Adobe ePubs. To read an ePub on a Kindle, you need to a) strip the Adobe DRM, and b) convert from ePub to MOBI. If you add the right 3rd party plugin from the tools_v3.1 bundle to Calibre, it will do both (a) and (b) for you. As usual, see Apprentice Alf's Blog for DRM info (start with the oldest post).

As FF2 says, the first step is to install Adobe Digital Editions on your PC and get your library ebooks to display there. Then point Calibre at the .epub in My Documents\My Digital Editions.
