Refreshing books & docs available after Bluetooth transfers (Android)
By trial and error I found out it's possible to transfer ebooks to the Kobo using Bluetooth from my Android phone (a Nexus One). This should work with any other BT device, I remember reading someone's report this worked from Win XP.
On the Android phones this means using the "Bluetooth File Transfer App": http://www.appbrain.com/app/it.medieval.blueftp Once the files are transferred, though, the Bluetooth "sync" screen on the Kobo stays and the only way to get out is to "Cancel" the sync although the file transfer has completed. The books / documents then don't show up on the Kobo. How can the Kobo be forced to refresh its books + docs list ? The only way I found was by inserting the USB cable while connected to a PC and removing it - but this kind of defeats the convenience of BT transfers. Thanks for any hints on this. I wonder (and will try this shortly).. Insert and remove an SD card might trigger a rescan.
(A few minutes later) No go... It seemed to scan the SD card but not the root of the Kobo. As soon as I attatched / detached it, it scanned. Next experiment. Attach to a power source and unplug. (A few minutes later) Yes... that worked. So as long as you have a USB charger you can attach to the Kobo you can force it to do a rescan after doing a Bluetooth xfer to it. Peter, thank you for trying that. Hadn't thought about the SD Card. So perhaps transferring to the SD card directly and removing/inserting again will do for now.
It seems the sync method has some sort of handshaking from the Blackberry device and expects a signal to "finish" the sync and then scan. Maybe the BT sync can be made more generic in a future version of the Kobo. |

That's quite an old post, but I had a really similar need: while copying some epub via ssh, I wanted the folder to be refreshed so that my books could appear on the list.
I've found the below solution to work for me by simulating an USB plug/unplug: 1. create a file in kobo's disk: /tmp/root/refreshKobo.sh with the below content: Quote:
3. run the script sh /tmp/root/refreshKobo.sh 4. Your Kobo will ask if you want to connect, click on the "Connect" button. 5. wait for it 6. Your new books should now appear in the library ! |
