Difference in font rendering between Nickel and Koreader
Hey guys,
Really enjoying koreader here. I just have a quick question. Why does the same font at the same size in Nickel (stock launcher) vs Koreader look so different? In Nickel for example, Garamond just seems to look so thinner and less clear, also at smaller sizes it starts to look a little broken, with certain parts bolder and what not. I use the in built font weight editor in Nickel and then it starts to embolden certain parts of the letter and looks totally broken. Koreader, the font looks great at all sizes. Is there any way to get the fonts looking as great as they do on Koreader using the nickel launcher? The difference in the photos is very subtle but definitely there. On a side note - how the FRICK do I rotate attached images??!!?? Apologies!!! Hope this makes sense… Cheers Last edited by cerem0ny; 07-18-2024 at 09:20 PM. |

You rotate them before you attach them?

Garamond is a terrible font on an eInk screen. There are way too many thin lines that even in KOReader are still too think compared to the other lines,

I had installed EB Garamond on my Sage a while back but was not that happy with it as a font.
I've attached images of a page from my font tester using the webkit renderer (kepub), the RMSDK renderer (epub) and KOReader. The font size was set to the largest that let me see the entire page (Kobo font size showed as 36). Last edited by DNSB; 07-19-2024 at 02:11 PM. |

I think it has something to do with ‘hinting’ - when I set it to Native in Koreader, the font looks similar to how it looks on nickel - weird, thin lines mixed with bulging bold parts - totally unreadable. Is there any way I can apply the same hinting? Maybe my only option is to manually edit each of my fonts? Last edited by cerem0ny; 07-19-2024 at 06:33 PM. |

What version of Garamond is it? Not the version number but the full name and where did it come from?

And for what it may be worth, the three Garamond fonts I have kicking around (Adobe, EB Garamond and Monotype's version) look very similar except the in Windows Font Viewer looking at the Adobe Garamond Pro version, the T and h in The collide. |
