Thanks. Interesting that they would admit to being on a two-year cycle.

What, no upgrade? Good thing bin Laden is dead, else the terrorists have won.

I would settle for a new version of Kobo using the Pearl screen.

Sounds reasonable in terms of payback for their development cost. It is touch surprising to be so candid about it. It ruins some of the rumor/buzz at year-end this year. The Pearl generation is very usable for text so I'm not crying over this.

Most things electronic tend to slow at freezing temperatures... except battery life, that tends to run out faster...

it makes sense as they are just now getting around to releasing Pearl to the other brands that are not Sony or Amazon. So basically it is still an upgrade to the rest of the ereader world.
My money says their money is all on color ASAP, as in next year. Right now the EPD brands like Eink have to be concerned about the foothold that LCD is gaining into what they had as an near exclusive market. Plus there is the big weakness on Eink's EPD tech in the reading in the dark. Last edited by grumpy3b; 05-03-2011 at 05:22 AM. |

Good. Less temptation to replace something that works perfectly well with the latest and greatest. :P

I'm glad to hear that, actually, considering I just finally broke down and ordered a 650 (I've been dying for one). Glad it won't be immediately obsolete...

So for now we can all benefit of the great Pearl E-ink screens in the 9.7" readers like Kindle and Onyx Boox.
It's just really annoying trying to use devices with a LCD display in the sun, especially the iPad. It's impossible! |

I'm fine with this... as long as they get back to it next year! I would hate to see e-ink abandoned in favor of LCD, with all these tablets around.

Would be nice to have more portable readers - 6 inch for example - with Pearl screens though, wouldn't it?
