ignored threads
So, why would I ignore a thread - in Calibre there are features that I do not and will never use. Some of those features have dedicated and very busy threads, one at least is so busy it needs to be Sticky
But my request to ignore (to not know) a thread is "More honor'd in the breach than in the observance." Yes I know that's misuse of Shakespeare, but you y'all know what I mean. I find the result of ignoring busy, no-interest-to-me, threads, even more irritating than not ignoring the same threads (Related->COPS and Plugins->FanFiction) - see screen shot. Just saying BR Last edited by BetterRed; 02-26-2014 at 09:16 AM. |

I can't see the point of the 'ignore thread' feature. I just take no notice of the thread, or unsub. Ignoring it just draws attention to it, making the whole thing more irritating.
I suppose this is your whole point! Last edited by BookCat; 02-26-2014 at 02:22 PM. Reason: Agreement with OP. |

I was puzzled a bit on why also until I remembered there is more than 1 way to use this board.
If you happen to use New Posts (on menu above), ignore probably has use If you view by forum (like I do) it appears strange. There may also be differences depending on How a thread displays (I use Linear-Display Oldest first) |

I removed the ignore on the COPS & Fanfiction threads, their presence being far less intrusive on my sensibilities than was their absence. BR |

I only use new posts and my subscribed threads list. I have individual threads plus entire sections ignored.

If you go to
User Control Panel Edit Options (on left hand side) scroll down the page to Miscellaneous Options scroll to Forum Exclusion and you can choose forums to exclude from your New Post searches and from Last Forum Activity on the frontpage, holding down ctrl to select multiple forums and/or subforums. |

It is also easy to ignore certain sections of our web site. For example if you didn't want to view the non-English language section you can simple unexpand it. On the right side of every banner there is a + or - sign. Clicking - removes the section while + returns it. This is generally remembered by the browser but easy to reverse if you decide to look at it again.

In Options I have set up forums to exclude in order to make Today's Posts useful for me. I also ignore some threads for the same reason. I appreciate that this feature is available.
I want to see new posts for the Deals, Freebies, and Resources forum, but I don't want to see 15 Baen bundles threads (which were all active last year during a short period when rules were changing and those bundles were expiring). Ignoring those individual threads meant I could still see the threads that interest me in that subforum using Today's Posts without those Baen threads drowning out everything else. |

The ignore thread feature would be much more useful if the ignored thread did not activate the forum icon indicating there are unread threads in the forum. Currently if you ignore a thread and there are new posts to the thread then the new posts icon for the forum activates.
