PRS-600 not recognised by Calibre
Hi,
Thanks for Calibre it is great and definitely the best e-book application I have seen. I have just bought a PRS-600 (UK version) and I want to download books to it. I am using Calibre 0.6.17 on Ubuntu. When I plug in the PRS-600 I get three browser windows open (2 for the files systems on the reader and one for the SD card). However, Calibre does not recognise the reader (it does not appear at the top next to the Library icon). a) Is this a bug in this version of Calibre? b) How do I force Calibre to recognise my reader? c) Is it safe to just copy the files onto the reader manually? c.1) If so does it have to go in a specific directory? P.S. I have set the Sony Touch as the reader I am using in the setup. Thanks |

Post the result of running
calibre-debug -d in a terminal and yes it's perfectly safe to copy files to the reader suing the save to disk function in calibre. |

After running the command mentioned in the link above, I got CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED is not set. Does this mean that my kernel is OK? |

If Kovid hasn't done anything to change this (I don't remember seeing anything about it), Ubuntu 8.04 does not work with device detection.

Thanks, is it worth upgrading to Ubuntu 8.10? Does anyone know if it works any better?

8.10 was good. However, it is not a LTS release. If you are going to move away from the LTS versions you would be better off waiting until 9.10 comes later this month.

I can confirm that device detection works fine with 8.10.

It's a known issue:
Anyway, both 600 and 700 have same resolution and same grey levels, so what's the difference? |

I don't care about resolution or grey levels, for the moment. The problem is that Calibre fail to connect.

Am I understanding correctly?
So, I looked, and I see:
CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED=y CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED_V2=y CONFIG_SYSFS=y My understanding is that I need to turn off the first two, and then it should work. Is that correct? Thanks! ~Erin |
