Clara BW

I have a Libra 2 which I like a lot. The only issue is that it doesn't fit in a pocket and therefore is hard to take with me when I'm out and not using a backpack or some such.

I'm thinking of getting a Clara BW because it seems small enough to fit in a pants pocket (although not by much).

All of my book are loaded from Calibre. Almost everything I read is only text, the main exceptions being the occasional art history book. I don't imagine the Clara Colour is going to be much help with art illustrations, given size and lack of vivid color. In any event, the main motivations for the Clara BW are size, compatibility with Calibre and a bit of configurability.

Any thoughts on this?

Sounds a perfect solution to me.

(I don't use a 6'' reader myself, because I only read books at home).

I've had a bunch of Kobo 6" devices, and they've fit in my pants pockets: back pocket for jeans and cargo pocket for cargo shorts. I do not use a cover.

I've sat down a couple of times with one in my back pocket and no broken screens yet. I would recommend not sitting down with one in a back pocket.

Having tried the Clara Colour, I agree that a 6” screen is too small to truly enjoy color content. Also if your main objective is to read outside, I found the screen on the new color Kobo devices too dark to comfortably read in the sun. As mentioned by John F, those 6” devices are great for carrying around though, so I believe that for your use case the Clara BW is indeed the way to go.

Not fitting in a packet is a very good reason for a larger screen.

I have an over the shoulder bag that I put my Libra 2 in when I want to take my Libra 2 with me. The Libra 2 with cover just fits. But when I bought the bag, I had my Libra 2 with me to make sure the Libra 2 fit. It's much better protected then a pocket. I've read many times of a Reader in a pocket being damaged. A number of people forget it's in the back pocket and sit on it.

Also, I don't always have a pocket that would fit a Clara BW. How would you cart a Kobo if you didn't have a large enough pocket?

If my wife had a large enough bag with room and she was going out with me, I'd give it to her to put in her bag. But I do have a shoulder bag it fits in so I don't have to worry about it.

What I've also done before when I wasn't taking my Reader is to put a book or two on my phone and read from there.

Maybe extrapolate your answer to your question about the Clara BW and pockets.

I can bring the Libra 2 when I'm out with a backpack or some such (see OP).

Most of the time I'm out I'm not carrying any bag, so I'd take the Clara in a pocket.

I don't like reading on a phone.

Whine: I ordered the Clara from Amazon yesterday to be delivered tomorrow. However, they shipped it for Monday delivery. If I were to buy one within the next few hours, it would be scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Why should something ordered yesterday take longer than something ordered today?

Maybe you need pants with bigger pockets. I can fit my Libra (with its case!) in mine.

Getting a Clara seemed easier than getting a new wardrobe.

Hmmm... the front lower pockets in my favourite brand of cargo shorts will hold a Kobo Sage in its case.

I'm on the opposite side. Fitting in a pocket is a very good reason for a 6" screen.

A 6" screen is excellent for portability. Not just fitting into a pocket (I've been doing that for years), but it actually fits into quite a lot of small bags and purses. If you like having a smallish portable device that is so versatile you can carry it with ease, Clara line is the perfect solution.

I have a small shoulder bag that I use to carry my Libra 2. It fits perfectly. No need for a risky pocket (if it would fit).

The Clara BW fits nicely in my pants pockets while the Libra 2 does not. It doesn't seem that risky in a front pocket. I face the screen inwards, on the theory the screen is more fragile than the back and my leg is softer than things I might bump into.
