Fitzgerald, F. Scott: More Than Just A House. v1. 05 Jan 09

A great American writer of fiction, F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Here's what NYTimes books says about this story:

"'More Than Just a House' (1933) is about the same Fitzgerald hero, though it casts him in the role of a rising businessman. Lew Lowrie falls in love successively with all three Gunther sisters, in their big Maryland house that he also loves. Amanda, the beautiful sister, can't forgive him for being the parvenu who saved her life. Why couldn't she have been saved by one of her own crowd? "She turned her slender smile full upon Lew for a moment, and then aimed it a little aside, like a pocket torch that might dazzle him." A few years later the second sister, Jean, would be glad to accept him, his wealth having increased, but she frightens him off by revealing her selfishness. Finally he marries the youngest sister, Bess, but only when the Gunther house is falling to ruins. "The purpose of the house was achieved - finished and folded - it was an effort toward some commonweal, an effort difficult to estimate, so clearly does it press against us still."

Like all the books I assemble on MobileRead, this too was assembled to reflect human intervention and artistic judgment.

I hope you enjoy it.
