Device: Kobo Touch N905B
Crash on N905 ("cannot open ntx_io character device"?)

I recently got my hands on another used Kobo Touch N905 and figured I'd get started installing the latest version of KOReader. Alas, something seems to have gone wrong in the installation process.

I got somewhere a while ago and definitely got KOreader to launch a few times before I had to put it aside and tend to other things. Currently, the device starts up normally and I have both the KOreader icon in the list of books and the NickelMenu in the lower-right corner. Starting KOreader either way just freezes the device. The NickelMenu produces a message stating
Code:
[KFMon] Launched koreader.sh :)
Tapping the KOReader icon just displays the zoomed-in KOReader icon.

I'm at something of a loss to tell you exactly how I got here. The device is running software version 4.38.23038 from 6/20/24, updated from pgaskin. I downloaded "OCP-KOReader-v2024.07" from this thread. I think one of the last things I did was edit my .kobo\Kobo\kobo eReader.conf to contain
Code:
[FeatureSettings]
ExcludeSyncFolders=(\\.(?!kobo|adobe).+|([^.][^/]*/)+\\..+)
The ending of .adds\koreader\crash.log reads:
Quote:

I've tried Googling for "resources/icons/icon-not-found.svg" and "cannot open ntx_io character device" and there don't seem to be obvious reports of similar problems. (The only thing in my \.adds\koreader\resources\icons folder is another subfolder named "mdlight".)

What should I do now? Do a Factory Reset and start over? (Is there an obvious place I should be seeking solutions?)

ETA: Well, judging from the lack of response, I guess it's not something totally obvious?
I have opened an issue.
Curiously, sometimes the error comes up with
Code:
./luajit: frontend/device/kobo/ntx_io.lua:16: ioctl failed
.

Oh fudge, it was totally obvious. I unzipped "OCP-KOReader-v2024.07" into the root directory of the reader again, skipping files that were already present, and KOReader is starting up without a problem.

I should have clued into that, but in my defense I don't know why a bunch of files (but not all of them) would have suddenly gone missing either.

Because you add them and then remove them from the Kobo reader's database (using your regex edit you mentioned)..
