Sony Mobius: Erste Informationen, erstes Video
Wie man vielleicht schon im englischsprachigen Teil von MobileRead gesehen hat gibt es Nachrichten von Sony und Eink. Es wurde von beiden Unternehmen in Gemeinschaftsarbeit ein neues flexibles Display entwickelt das nun in einem Prototyp verbaut wird und nun testweise an drei japanischen Hochschulen zum Einsatz kommt. Ja so sehe ich das auch.
Was mich sehr überrascht ist die gute Reaktionszeit und die Genauigkeit bei der Eingabe handschriftlicher Notizen die man in dem Film sehen kann. Das macht einen sehr guten ersten Eindruck. Neben wissenschaftlichen Texten kann ich mir das Gerät auch sehr gut zur Darstellung von PDF-Faksimiles von Tageszeitungen vorstellen. Ich bin mir momentan nicht darüber im Klaren ob dieses DIN A 4 Format dafür ausreichend ist, aber ich denke das auch in diese Richtung hin entwickelt wird. In Japan sind Tageszeitungen noch stärker verwurzelt als in Mitteleuropa und im angelsächsischen Sprachraum. Gerade in den Metropolen und Ballungsräumen. Der Bedarf Papier durch ein elegantes und funktionales Lesegerät zu ersetzen ist in diesem Bereich auch vorhanden. |

Interessantes Gerät mit vielen Anwendungsmöglichkeiten im professionellen Bereich. Ich hätte so was aber auch gerne schon damals für Notizen in den Vorlesungen gehabt.

Gute Frage.
Ich werde die Damen und Herren auf dem Laufenden halten sobald neue Nachrichten zur Forschung, zur Entwicklung und zur Verfügbarkeit eintreffen. Auch wenn das Display in seiner gegenwärtigen Form für das Faksimile der New York Times zu klein sein sollte, man wird damit vermutlich New Republic oder The Economist ganz gut lesen können. |

Ich möchte noch einmal kurz auf die möglichen Verwendungsarten eingehen.
Bislang wurde angeregt den Sony Modus Reader zur Lektüre wissenschaftlicher Dokumente und für Wirtschafts- und Wissenschaftszeitschriften zu nutzen. Im englischsprachigen Bereich ist man auf die Idee gekommen dass der Reader auch gut für Konferenzen, Besprechungen, Schulklassen und Hochschulseminare geeignet ist, um den Einsatz von fotokopierten Blättern auf ein Minimum zu beschränken. Studierende technischer und medizinischer Studiengänge fallen gewiss noch weitere Verwendungsmöglichkeiten ein auf die ich hier nicht näher eingehen möchte. Aber auch für Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaftler gibt es interessante Perspektiven. Dank des Engagements gewisser Hochschulen findet man bereits Faksimiles relevanter Werke im Internet die ansonsten nur mit grossem Aufwand zu beschaffen sind. Da diese Ausgaben direkt von den Fachbereichen der Hochschulen herunterladen werden können handelt es sich hier tatsächlich um zitierfähige Ausgaben, da sie eine fotomechanische Kopie des Bestandsbuchs darstellen. Ein Beispiel sind die acht Edmund Husserl Bände die von der Universität Freiburg zur Verfügung gestellt worden sind: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. Diese Ausgaben verfügen über eine zitierfähige Perma-URL und einen 128-bit MD5 Hash um mutmassliche Dokumentenfälschungen und -veränderungen unkompliziert ausschliessen zu können (was mit epub Dokumenten praktisch nicht möglich ist). Es wäre also wünschenswert wenn der Sony Mobius den MD5 Hash eine Dokuments für Schnellüberprüfungen ermitteln und anzeigen könnte. Das wäre ein nötiges Feature. Mich würde interessieren ob man sich bereits Gedanken zu weiteren Verwendungsmöglichkeiten gemacht hat. Denn es gibt gewiss noch andere Dinge die man damit tun kann. Im Blog Open Parachute derweil steht: "Trotz dieser frühen Ankündigung und Vorführung des Geräts wird es ein Jahr dauern, bis es im Handel erhältlich sein wird."
Denkt ihr auch, dass erfahrungsgemäß die letzte Meinung die Oberhand behalten wird? |

Wenn es bislang auch kaum Neuigkeiten gibt, so habe ich doch drei schöne Bilder vom Sony Mobius erhalten (Dank an parkher) mit denen man sich schon einmal in Stimmung versetzen kann.
Auf der japanischen Sony Reader Seite habe ich zum Mobius Projekt bislang gar nichts gefunden. Interessanterweise erscheint in Japan noch der Sony PRS-G1, die G3-Version des Sony PRS-T1, im Portefeuille. Soweit mir bekannt gab es diese Readervariante nicht in Europa. |

Gerüchte zufolgen arbeitet Samsung an einem 12.2" und apple sogar an einem 13" Tablet.
Das würde eine sehr schwierige Marktsituation für Sony werden besonders wenn Samsung seinen S-Pen (Induktiver Stylus) wieder an Bord bringt. Wenn die Geräte jetzt noch einem ähnlichen Preis haben wie das Sony Slate kann es schwierig werden. Dennoch die Vorteile des Sony Mobius Readers wären eine lange Akkulaufzeit, geringes Gewicht und ein mattes Display. Trotzdem würden diese "Substitute" Tablets den Sony mehr zu einem Nischenprodukt machen. Ich denke am Interessantesten ist wieviel letzendlich die einzelnen Produkte kosten werden. Auch interessant sollte der Zeitpunkt der Markteinführung sein für Sony, wenn das Gerät erst nach diesem Tablets rauskommt, wäre das sehr schlecht! Hier 2 Quellen.
