Can you repair Sony ebook readers and resell them? eBay has auction for 15 units
eBay has an auction going on now for 15 Sony ebook readers (various models) that are not working for several reasons. Perhaps many could use full battery charges and new firmware. If they are repaired, these units could possibly be resold on eBay for a profit. Models include the PRS-350, 300, 600, and 505.
Auction ends in about 18 hours from now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LOT-15-Sony-...25534091954346 Last edited by gardenstate; 12-28-2011 at 04:51 PM. |

Sure you can resell them as working if you can get them working.

Mayyyybe. A new unit costs $110 and includes full warranty. Taking the time to repair these, (say, on average, 1 hour of technician time.), including time to test, repackage, auction and ship to customers, you would have to charge $80/piece to actually be profitabe. For which the customer then gets a 3rd party refurb with no protection from Sony for malfunctioning purchase.
The sad truth of these modern innexpensive electronics. Simple economics condemns them to be landfil in no time. |

I know this sounds bad but I don't trust new sellers on eBay. All eBay sellers have to start somewhere but I have no desire to be someone's guinea pig. This guy is brand new. They only joined in August of this year.
Look at his other items. He appears to have access to or somehow gets a lot of electronics. Sorry. I'm skeptical about folks like that. The listing for both the Sonys and the Kobos says FOR PARTS. That doesn't mean you can repair them. That means you strip those units and use its parts to repair OTHER units. Follow? |
