En même temps pour ce terme là, c'est plutôt marrant et selon moi, tablette n'est pas plus correcte que planchette ; simplement davantage accepter par l'usage.
Je suis toujours surpris de voir à quel point les mots associés aux nouvelles technologies les décrivent très mal. Alors j'évite le conformisme. Ardoise me conviendrait aussi bien.

Autre exemple :
Notebook, portable, laptop : toute des abréviations pour ordinateur portable. Je ne connais aucun mot (unique) décrivant précisément l'objet.
À noter d'ailleurs que l'origine du mot ordinateur est quelque peu... hum... tirer par les cheveux (pardon M. Perret).
