My snake aversion goes back to childhood. I was happily playing in my sandbox, reached back to pick up something and got a snake instead. Screaming, crying, sand flying, and the snake slithering away as fast as possible - you get the picture. I probably scared him as bad as he scared me. Luckily it was just a harmless black snake. I've encountered lots of snakes - rattlesnakes, water moccasins, coral snakes - and haven't found one I liked (although I will admit that the tiny little green snake I encountered nose-to-nose while pruning an azalea bush was kinda cute, after I picked myself up off the ground). I especially didn't like the black snake that caused my mother to turn my room into a disaster area. I came home from high school one day to find my bed pushed aside, things on the bed that were stacked on the floor when I left that morning, and gouges in the wall and floor tile. While putting laundry in my room that day, she noticed what appeared to be a thick cable on the floor in front of my stereo...and then it moved. My mom is a pretty resourceful lady. Not wanting to pepper my bedroom with birdshot, she ran outside to get a hoe and the dog. A snake, a dog, and a woman armed with a long handled hoe in a 10ft by 10ft room...well, let's just say that snake made a really bad decision by entering the house. Turns out that Mom left the front door open the day before while she did some yard work and he probably got in then. That's what REALLY creeps me out, the idea that he probably slept in my bedroom. I just really glad I didn't wake up to find him in bed with me. Dreamer |

I really like your new avatar. But I was wondering: Why is she smoking a crack pipe and seeing hallucinatory blue globes floating in front of her? |

And then there's the whole mental anquish of her parents plotting to marry her off to the extremely rich Viscount (who made a rather lascivious suggestion to her just last night at a house party) when all she really wants to do is spend her life with her childhood sweetheart, the son of a destitute clergyman. (wow, I just used "her" five times in one sentence) Dreamer |

I've killed and eaten rattlesnake many times (and not even felt guilty about it since one those rotten snakes killed one of my kittens).
However, that has not been a recent affectation. I started cooking and eating snake when I was very young (and helping to check and mend fences on the ranch). Rattlesnake is very good with pork and beans. |

Oh slayda, I bet you've got some interesting stories.

Actually the lady is blowing soap bubbles...the old fashioned way with a straw. The painting is appropriately called "Blowing Bubbles" by Charles Joshua Chaplin (1825-1891). Here's a larger version if you want a better look at it. Dreamer |
