Cabell, James Branch: Taboo, v1, 17 January 2010.
James Branch Cabell (1879-1958)
Taboo A Legend Retold from the Dirghic of Sævius Nicanor, with Prolegomena, Notes, and a Preliminary Memoir (1921) After the publication of “Jurgen” the author was prosecuted by John Sumner of the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice, who did not appreciate its double-entendres. Cabell dedicates this short work to Sumner, in gratitude for his help in increasing sales. It is a little satire, set in a society where all mention of eating is strictly forbidden. From Project Gutenberg. |
