Hello, i buy i Kindle PaperWhite EY21 on ebay, This is my first Kindle.
I have Android on my Tablets and smarthphone But im totally new with the "android like" Kindle OS. I want to access the setting, but setting are in "gray" mode and i cannot access the setting button. I try to reset (holding the power button 20 sec) but no way to activate the setting button. |

**UNLESS** Your information block is correct and this is a "Demo" unit. In that case, this is probably normal operation for a "Demo" unit of your model. You will need to use a serial port connection to "un-demo" a PW1 or PW2. The "settings" menu is part of the Amazon image and a required part of the functionality of the **non-demo** Kindle. Ok Thx; When i buy it i see this information (Demo) i just thinking... its will be easy to reflash it
I alrealy have a USB to TTL adapter, it look like easy to solder it. I will make the serial mod. Do you have a link for a tuto for this ? I found this : http://www.mobileread.mobi/forums/sh...70929&page=125 Basically, what I have done so far: 1. Buy a FTDI Breakout USB-TTL (~$8) 2. Solder Kindle serial pins 3. Use kermit, login as root, dd mmcblk0p[123] to /mnt/us 4. Reboot in recovery mode 5. Export FAT partition 6. Plug USB cable and backup mmcblk0p[123] to my PC |

Now put one of the Amazon end-user update packages on your exported USB drive and then re-boot (the greater than 20 second thingy).
From the serial line (at the point where you could enter the 'dd' command) enter: cat /etc/version cat /etc/pretty-version That will tell you which device (pw1 or pw2) and which firmware you now have on it. Which in turn will tell you which Amazon update package to grab. The re-boot process should recognize the Amazon update package, install it, and that will "un-demo" the device for you. - - - - Welcome to the forum - you made a lot of progress on your own.
