Firmware

I have version 1.0.00 on my prs 500, is it worth upgrading to the latest firmware ? I have heard of some problems so tempted to leave as is unless it makes a big difference.

The only problem is a purely cosmetic, and trivially solved, problem with the display of the battery meter - it doesn't reset to "full" following a charge (all you have to do to fix it is momentarily re-connect the wall charger with the Reader turned on). The upgrade offers a number of enhancements, such as longer battery life when playing MP3 files. I see no particular reason not to upgrade - certainly the battery meter thing is a complete "non issue"!

I accepted to upgrade my ebook and after 45 minutes it was still upgrading without telling me when it will finish. I unplug it praying nothing was broken. The prs work well but when Connect ask me to upgrade again ,so far I declined. How many minute it suppose to take to upgrade ??

Should take no more than a couple of minutes.

I 100% disagree with this assessment. The battery issue is a COMPLETE issue. The re-connecting of the charger doesn't work at all if, like me, you use a USB cable to charge the device. You have to reset your Reader EVERY time you use the USB charger, by pushing a paper clip or pin into the back of the Reader. I wish I hadn't upgraded my Reader's firmware. I really can't see many people using it as an MP3 player..

You could always use the universal flasher to go back to the original firmware, WilliamG, it sounds like you might be happier with the old one.

I do not think so.
- There is always danger that something bad might happen during the update.
- The battery meter will stop working properly.
- There is no new functionality worth mentioning.

William,

This is a classic example of something that's a "showstopper" to some, and a complete non-issue to others. Just goes to show that we all have different needs when it comes to such matters!

Too true...

Is there somewhere you can get the original firmware from?

I'm afraid I don't have it, but I seem to remember that someone stripped it off before they did the update, so I'm hoping someone has it somewhere.
