Hide "update found"

I've searched for this topic before posting this and only found a mention from 2012, in which Kovid said it is not possible.

Has this changed?

Is there any way you can hide the 'Update found: X.X.X' that is permanently shown at the bottom of Calibre's window?

I cannot update anyway, so I would like to hide it.

Nope. AFAIK that message does consider your OS (with some limits) .

That only prevents the popup. The notification will permanently be in the statusbar.

I've been looking around for a solution as well. Seems impossible.

there is like a new release every other day (not saying that is a bad thing), I am tired of keep updating every time I open the programme. I should be able to hide that and manually update every once in a while.

Every other day??? Then you did not actually UPDATE (it is not Automatic after a download).
That is just the same notice being repeated (note the version number in the notice)
Normal releases are every other week (after the major level update settles. We are settled on 7 for quite a while)

I don't install every update; I update once in a while. The rest of the time I just ignore the notification, which is easy to do, as after the first time it's only displayed on the status bar. I'm not bothered by it being there.

I agree. I check what's new and what people write here and may wait a few weeks for a later update or update the next day.

the "every day" was for dramatic purposes. The fact is, every time I open Calibre (at least once a week) there is a new update available, 7.12.0 this time round (I am on 7.11, updated just last week). Again not a problem with that, but I use a dark theme and the colour lettering for "update found" is a bright green. why can't I hide that thing? I can't ignore that, it bloody stands out like a sore thumb.

That would be overly dramatic.

Maybe you can change it with Preferences->Look & feel->Color palette.

FWIW my Update found is 'forest green' in dark mode.
