Epub Font Size Question
What code do you need to use in epub to adjust the font size? And is it added to the html file or the css override in Calibre?

the base font size adjusts overall font size in the epub file. If you want to adjust the font size of specific elemnts you put the neccessary css into override css or you edit the source html and put the neccessary css there

I don't think I drank enough coffee this morning...how do you adjust the base font size? Specific elements I figured I could use <font size=add number here> I haven't looked at the epub conversion properties often but is there a place there to adjust the font size? Like what's in the LRF conversion box? |

I'm a bit confused...These are the settings I have for Epub and this is the setting I have for LRF Both show pts as a font size? So how can you tell which one is px?? And this is what I have for mobi. Last edited by Amalthia; 03-07-2009 at 06:31 PM. Reason: Pictures too large first time, and forgot Mobi settings... |

hmm my mistake, i thought the lrf conversion used px, but apparently not. the font rescaling algorithm for two conversions is different, which accounts for the difference you see. i'm afraid you will just have to experiment with each format to figure out which size works best for each

Well I removed my SD card in order to experiment today now that I have some time. I hadn't had the chance to add any epub docs that I created to my device until earlier this week. I had assumed size 12 font was the same for each of the conversions. Would it be safe to assume the mobi size 12pt may be different from the LRF and Epub? |

yes basically each output format at the moment performs its own font size rationalization. calibre's conversion subsystem is being overhauled so this will change once that's done.

I tested the different fonts using the built in Base Font and it seemed to have no affect on the font within the epub book I was making. However, when I added p {margin-top: 0pt; margin-bottom: 0pt; padding: 0pt; text-indent: 15pt; font-size: 12.5pt;} to the css override box...that did seem to affect the font size within the epub document. Strangely 12.5pt worked just fine and gave me something rather similar in size to the LRF files I've been creating. I still don't get how the LRF file is 1200 pages long and the Epub says it's only 450 pages long...but I figured I can ask that in the Epub thread. |

Dragging up and old topic I know.
Unless I am mistaken an LRF works out the number of pages based upon how many screens it will take to display the whole book. Change the font size and the number of pages will change. In an ePub file the pages are defined by a set number of lines at the default font size and this is usually about 3 screens worth of text at medium setting. BTW when setting your font size to 12.5pt how many lines of text at medium zoom are you getting on your PRS-505? |

epub font-size publishing problem
Hi from BrimBooks.com:
We're new to the forum. As a family small press, we convert our books from .doc files to .epub files using the 2BrightSparks.com software: InfohesiveEP 3.2.0.0. However, when I download our .epub books to my new Sony Reader Daily Edition, everything is fine except I can't use the font size-change function. I'm not a technology specialist, but I suspect there is some code in the XHTML version of the file that is blocking the Reader's ability to modify the font size. We don't have that problem in our tests using the Nook Reader. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Michael Brim (writing as Michael Goldcraft) BrimBooks.com, Panama City, Florida My Facebook page is: Michael Shannon Brim, and friends our invited. |

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but font sizes shouldn't be hard coded in epubs. I just had to take the font size out of the css code in a free epub from the Phoenix Pick Catalog (I used Sigil). Otherwise I couldn't resize it in Stanza for iPad. If you convert epub->epub in Calibre, it will fix it as well.
