Lone Wolf Game Books

For those of you who remember Choose Your Own Adventure books and the various game books from the 80s and early 90s this post is for you.

Project Aon is volunteer project dedicated to reprinting and rereleasing the Lone Wolf books with the full cooperation of their original author, Joe Dever. They have completely formatted and allowed their versions of ALL of the Lone Wolf books to be played and downloaded from their web site.

The books are all in HTML format and can be either played on the site or downloaded and played off line. There are a few programs available to help with this, also available on the site.

My favorite program is called Seventh Sense and is available here: http://www.projectaon.org/staff/david/
this version of the program only has the first five books set up so far, and has a bug, but is easily corrected using these instructions: http://projectaon.proboards.com/inde...ay&thread=1799

You can download another program, called the Base program which will allow you to download and play ALL of the books. Both the Base program and the zip with all of the books are available in the “Special Download Package” section here: http://www.projectaon.org/en/Main/Books
Once you have the base program and books you will need to copy the book folders into the base program to use them.
I would also suggest downloading the Statskeeper and Lone Wolf Action Chart which are available at the same address under the “Tools” section.

Obviously this whole set up is a little bit rudimentary, but with a little effort these books come back to life. If you have an ebook reader with an HTML web browser you can even load the base program and books onto it and play them that way. Project Aon could use some fresh ideas and some new blood, so any help in promoting and advancing the cause would be welcome.

These are great, I've been playing them for a few years now. They convert really well to Plucker or iSilo format too

I used calibre to convert the first to ePub and it opens fine in Stanza on the iPad, although the fancy page headers don't always display on the right page.

I'm sorry if the question is dumb, but how did you do that? (i'm also sorry to be talking in a old forum, but i don't really understand how to put this game books in epub or mobi or anything else format)

Check out calibre as mentioned in murraypaul's post... there's a whole sub-forum here that is dedicated to it... amongst other things, it lets you convert almost any format to almost any format (not DRMd).

If you are interested in mobi versions of the books, you'll find that most of them are already in mobi format on the main Project Aeon site.

I played through a couple of them some time ago and they were pretty good.

Go to: http://www.projectaon.org/, choose you language (in my case english).

Select "Books" from the menu and you will be presented with the list of books broken down by series. You will also see other work listed as well like Combat Heroes and Freeway Warrior.

Choose you book (e.g. Flight from the Dark), and scroll to the contributed section and mobi pocket is there. Most have a low & high resolution version, I personally have chosen all the high-res ones and they work great.

BTW the first book (Flight from the Dark) also has a link to get it direct from Amazon and a link for the hardback version as well.

I've just noticed you are in Spain. Are you looking for the spanish versions? If so then I've afraid that the mobi's an only available in the english version of the site.

Do you know if they work in the Kindle app for Touchpad? I loved these books as a kid, I'd love to have them on the Touchpad!

I don't have a touchpad or know anyone who has one so can't check but they do work in the kindle app on my PC.
