Can I convert PocketBook .dic to Kindle?
I found that Kindle has a strong deficiency in regards to German dictionaries.
So I went on to download dict.cc's e-reader dictionary, and it comes with an extension .dic which supposedly works only on a e-reader named PocketBook, which calibre apparently doesn't recognize. Anyone has any idea? |

What do you mean strong deficiency? There is Oxford translation dictionaries english-german and german-english, and "Duden Deutsches Universalwörterbuch" 7. Edition with 500000 words.

As far as I know you cannot update the internal dictionary that the Kindle uses for word prediction and so forth. It is not surprising that PocketBook has better support for German, since German is one of Switzerland's official languages and they are a Swiss company.

If a dictionary fails on Kindle, you can always translate with bing or look up wikipedia directly on device. Cannot get much more up to date than that. Just remember that you didn't pay for any dictionaries that are included with a Kindle. It doesn't mean they are free. If I had to buy a dictionary (say in paper format), I would not opt for the big and heavy versions that my Kindle has. |

Have you tried this: https://1manfactory.com/create-your-...uage-for-free/
If too much work, spend some money on a dictionary on the Kindle store. Btw Pocketbook is Ukranian... Last edited by johnnyb; 01-23-2018 at 05:06 PM. |

Vlash, could you elaborate on what you consider the deficiencies of the Kindle's German dictionaries to be? The Kindle is widely considered to have the best dictionaries of any reader.

But of course, it is easy to add better ones from the shop or even from dict.cc following the method described on the blog I linked to. |
