Google Announces the Nexus 7"
Update: Video is live now.
Well the video via youtube is marked private but if you go to Android Central Nexus 7" video you'll be able to watch the video. It's pretty much what was leaked It looks like the video is now also blocked on Androidcentral's web site. Last edited by =X=; 06-27-2012 at 03:30 PM. Reason: updated post |

http://www.google.com/nexus/#/7/features
https://play.google.com/store/device...d=nexus_7_16gb The video is live again. I see no mention of expandable storage, which is disappointing. The 370t, which the Nexus 7 was based off originally, also had hdmi out, which this appears not to. But otherwise, this is probably the best 7" Android reader out there, and the price is fantastic. I was disappointed in the low pixel density of my Nook Tablet. 1280x800 on a 7" IPS screen is going to look very crisp. There's an old toshiba with that resolution, and terrible battery life, but this, with the very efficient tegra 3, is going to last 9 hours even playing video. They bragged about console quality gaming at the IO presentation, which is true. Tegra 3 and a 1gb of ddr3 ram (even if it is the low voltage sort) probably puts the PS3 to shame. But should software support ever arrive to really push the hardware that far, where will you store stuff? This is going to be a great streaming device for netflix or hulu, but if you have a video library of your own from an HTPC for example, you're really constrained with how many you can put on here for trips and the like. Asus is rumored to be developing another 7" tablet that isn't a nexus. I'm eager to see if they can do a little better. |

Looks pretty nice. I think we're seeing the beginning of the end of the Fire/NookColor/Vox 'ereader' tablets.

Well, it is launching in Canada, too--something Amazon has not done with the Fire and B&N has not yet done with any device.

Sweet hardware specs for the price. IPS display! I know the lack of a memory card slot kills it for some people but I think it'll be a serious Kindle tablet competitor. For $200 I may buy one just to play with.

And the UK - yay! I've been pondering a 7-incher for a little while and this may be it. I'm a little surprised there's no 32Gb version though, what with no SD slot, and all.

How much lighter will this feel compared to the Kobo Vox? I see the specs, but don't know how that translates to real life. The Kobo Vox feels almost as heavy as my iPad to me and I am thinking of returning it. Will this one be much better?

kobo vox is around 400g or 14.2 oz, the nexus 7 is 340g or around 12oz. iPad 3 is 1.44 lb or 652g, ipad 2 was 601g (for the wi fi models).
