IE11, problem logging in to calibre server

Hi,

I have a new Windows 8.1 installation and I can't use the web browser (IE11)to log in to my Calibre server which is password protected. I can log into the server from any other PC/Device.
It acts as though I've typed the wrong password.
I have not seen a problem logging in to other password protected sites.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

As IE11 (nor completed Windows 8.1) has not been released yet the quickest solution would likely be to uninstall the incomplete IE11 preview version, one of which I am assuming that you are using. IE11 will revert to the previous version.

This is not the preview but the final RTM version of 8.1, now available to developers with MSDN subscriptions.
There's no uninstall option.
I don't actually use the caliber server to access files from this PC, I run it there and was testing my new Calibre installation.

FWIW - to downgrade IE you probably have to use Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features->Turn Windows features on or off

I don't have Win8 in front of me, but from memory Win 8 is 'more or less' the same as Win7 - although that may have changed in 8.1.

Sorry, I had assumed that if you had the RTM version released to developers you would have been able to troubleshoot the issue for yourself.

I am aware there is no uninstall option for Win 8.1 itself but for the preview of IE 11 itself there is.

That is correct.

Whether or not IE11 can be downgraded to IE10 on the RTM version of 8.1 seems to be a bit of an unanswered question. It can certainly be removed as a Windows Feature but that doesn't mean that I'll suddenly have IE10 as IE10 doesn't come with the RTM release. An employee of TechNet support has stated that it cannot be reverted to IE10 but I am aware that I'm likely to find 50 different answers on the web. This was stated at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...ch-nx80-issues

But this is kind of besides the point. One of my reasons to install 8.1 is to discover the problems that it, and IE11, may introduce. Reverting to IE10 hardly helps in that goal.

FWIW: those symptoms imply that IE11's digest authentication is broken. Most sites use basic authentication, which Kovid refuses to use because it passes plain text passwords over the net.
