Installing binary on Leap 15.6
Hello there
I´m trying to install Calibre 7.17 and beyond on Leap 15.6 and get the following error message. As the result the reader window does not open. Does anybody know what could be wrong, or to fix this ? Many thanks in advance Michael Spoiler:

Your OS is too old, update or stay with calibre 7.15 until you can.

Hello kovi
If have just upgraded my openSuSE 15.5 to the latest 15.6, because of the outdated glib. Now i don´t get the error message from before, but instead this new one |

That error means the version of freetype on your system is too old, it lacks support for colrv1 fonts wich chromium and hence qt webengine require. So as I said stick with calibre 7.15 until you can update your system.

The flatpak from flathub should include all dependencies without you needing to jump to Tumbleweed.

Oddly with Suse Tumbleweed, I got the same libfreetype.so error when updating to calibre 7.19. I located the libfreetype install in /usr/lib64 and while a link for libfreetype.so.6 existed, one for libfreetype.so did not. I used
Code:
cp -P libfreetype.so.6 libfreetype.so Code:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Oct 11 2023 libfreetype.so -> libfreetype.so.6.20.1 A test on Debian 12 Bookworm gave much the same result except the link was in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu. Ditto for a Linux Mint 22 & Ubuntu 24.04 while Fedora 40 used /usr/lib64. NixOS was it's usual mess needing multiple installs. After I got calibre 7.19 installed, I removed the NixOS VM. Edit: I also tried to change libfreetype.so in the linux-installer.sh to libfreetype.so.6 and the install went without error even where I removed the libfreetype.so link. Not sure if this would have any effect on running calibre though it did seem to come up okay but I did not do anything else. Last edited by DNSB; 10-02-2024 at 11:34 PM. |

I solved the Problem for me by adding the M17N Repository to my System .
This installs the freetype6 Version 2.13, which is Perfect ! https://software.opensuse.org/downlo...6&project=M17N |
