Auto updates
Hey everyone!
I just wanted to take a moment to give a big shoutout and thank you for the incredible work you’ve all been doing! With all the exciting new versions rolling out, I thought it might be handy to refine the update process a bit. Maybe we could introduce an option for auto-updates or tweak the current popup to allow automatic download and installation. What do you all think? Would this make things easier for everyone? Thanks again for all your hard work and dedication! Cheers, Bru |

Me thinks you should have read the description of Development before posting there. Then you might want to review topics in the Calibre forum section (where you would see MANY threads on the same request) before posting a Q that has been answered many times. Besides, you might spot something else that might make yor Calibre usage even more fun |

Well, 5 clicks are enough for most of the users to not spend their time on it, specially for minor upgrades. I've seen so many people with the 'upgrade' displaying on their Chrome when sharing screen, and is only one click away. If the price of the servers is the inconvenient, why not change the download links to use the ones of GitHub? I believe it should be possible. |

@brumasribera - there are sticky threads for user contributed auto update solutions for Windows, MacOS and Linux in the Related Tools subforum.

I just said it would be great to have it integrated like any software does, but I understand it might be a lot of work.

After my decades in IT, autoupdate is something I avoid like the plague. Too many times, an automatic update ended up with IT having to roll back an update. All too often, this involved having to visit the computers in person as when a Microsoft update disabled the wired NICs on ~1000 computers. The best answer we found was to have a test pod where we installed and tested updates before allowing other computers to download them. Between that and getting acquainted with various sites that tracked issues with updates, it was time consuming but a lot less time consuming than visiting 20 sites and rolling back updates.

The International Bluescreen Day last week was due to a faulty Crowdstrike autoupdate.

First estimates of the monetary damage done by the Crowdstrike autoupdate:
https://www.neowin.net/news/systems-...ses-worldwide/ No, thank you. No Autoupdate. |
