Can I use the code Sigil uses for Covers for other images?

Hello again.
The SVG code that Sigil uses for its covers...any reason it can't be used for all pics to get the full screen fit? I am trying to deal with images on the full spectrum of devices with varying screen size and resolution from basic Nook Simple touch from 3 years ago, to top end Amazon Fires.
The issue arose because I just got a new basic model Kindle.
I loaded on some third party books that look great on my old kindle 3rd generation I believe (full keyboard on the bottom).
On the new Kindle, the same pics look much smaller. I am assuming this is because the new Kindle must have a higher res screen.
I am trying to figure out a way to use Sigil to help with this sizing issue and thought the coding for the cover might be an option.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Yes, you can use the same code for other full screen images. Just remember to change the resolution numbers to fit your different images.

Ok, three questions.
1) Is this the best way to go about getting images to be widely usable on all different screen sizes/resolutions or is there a more appropriate way to go about this job?
2)I am not sure how to actually get this code to work.
I am used to inserting an image yielding something like this

<img alt="Cover Manual of Prayers" src="../Images/Cover Manual of Prayers.jpg"/>

but the svg has

<image height="1237" width="826" xlink:href="../Images/Cover%20Manual%20of%20Prayers.jpg" /></svg>

It is the xlink:href that confuses me. How do I use the svg with the normal image insert option?
3)In the Cover code, it has both width/height = 100%. That seems to be impossible as different screens have different ratios of width to height. I am assuming that is what the
preserveAspectRatio="xMidYMid meet" addresses. Should I use all of this?

side note: If I don't have full page images in both directions, but only in width, but want to maintain full width across devices, can I use the above <svg> code with the subtraction of the 100% height stipulation and just leave the 100% width in the code?
Thanks again. Sigil has been tremendously helpful, but until now I was only looking at typical older res e-readers and didn't realize I would run into this issue with newer e-readers.

I don't use the height instruction, just width="100%".

There are formatters who don't approve of this approach, but it seems to work pretty well for me, on an e-ink Kindle, Fire tablet, Nook reader, and various apps. Since I'm not a fan of Apple's closed universe, I don't own (and won't buy) an iPad. I have however looked at my books on a friend's iPad and on my iPhone 4, and the images look good there as well.
