$110 Says All the New Kindles Are Coming Next Week
"When bargain hounds opened their Amazon Deal of the Day email this morning, they were met with a bargain basement Kindle DX. Amazon's black sheep 10-inch e-ink tablet is $110 off today, a 29% discount. It's the kind of deal you offer when you want to clear out inventory, fast.
Consider the context: The DX has long been neglected, ignored even, by Amazon. And rightly so. First introduced in 2009, the DX has gotten a single, largely meaningless update since. It's received no promotional support, despite Amazon's obviously healthy marketing budget. Any relevance it had was severely hampered by the introduction of the iPad, and was obliterated when Apple decided to get into the textbook business. So clearly Amazon's trying to unload a product it doesn't want to support any more. In fact, it hasn't supported the DX in two years. So why clear them out now? Because all those 10-inch Kindle DX boxes are taking up valuable shelf space, especially when there are 10-inch LCD models coming in to replace it. Want to buy a Kindle Touch today? Sorry, you're out of luck. There's an 8-9 day shipping wait on the model with special offers, and you can only get the $140 ad-free version through third party vendors. A Kindle Touch 3G, then? Sorry, that's currently unavailable The new Kindles are coming next week; all of them will be front-lit, and one of them will be a bigger Kindle Fire. Just remember that didn't hear it from some analyst. Amazon as good as told you itself." http://gizmodo.com/5933590/110-says-...ming-next-week Last edited by xg4bx; 08-10-2012 at 11:21 AM. |

![]() I'm thinking we might see a very cheap FIRE, too. Possibly in the 5in range. |

Interesting speculation.
The Kindle, Kindle Touch 3G and Kindle Keyboard 3G are still available "In Stock" at amazon.co.uk. Only the Kindle Touch is showing "Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 weeks." I have no idea if Gizmodo are correct in their speculation or not. |

What would I give for a Touch Kindle 3G (even if highly restricted)? |

Gizmodo makes a compelling case. I hope that it is true.

For a second there, I thought DX went for $110.
It's still too expensive, considered it's old and likely dead ended. |

FWIW, my local Staples & Best Buy both had "New E-reader coming soon" displays on Wednesday. They were located next to the Kindles... Here's hoping?

Big deal, they used a Kindle theme for the daily lightning deals, which only last a day or less. If they significantly drop the prices and leave them down, then you can get excited. I've still heard no word on any impending Amazon press conference which will surely precede any big announcements. Amazon might pop out some lackluster, minor updated Kindles without a press conference, but they would want to publicly announce anything big.

K3 arrived in August two years ago without much fanfare. Seems they like "back to school" marketing for these devices.

Isn't the Kindle DX also bigger and heavier than later Kindles like the Kindle 3. That could be a reason they have fallen by the wayside too. Why lug round a couple lbs when you can carry more books in a unit that weighs under a pound.

![]() ![]() ![]() I'm pretty sure something *NEW* is on the horizon for Amazon Kindle. Amazon is due to release something new, and I've thought so ever since I saw the Nook Simple Touch with glow.... Y'know, they have to stay competitive, and back to school is around the corner. |

No question: Amazon has new Kindles on the horizon--their State Dept contract says so.
Now, *when* they arrive is where the guessing game goes. The original widespread guess was July but it was followed by a report of production problem with the frontlight leading to a delay, generally guessed at 1-2 months. So a mid-to-late august announcement isn't all that unlikely. And with both Amazon and Best Buy having sales on refurb'ed Kindles in the last week or so, these new reports add fuel to the fire. Besides, we need new toys to talk about. ![]() |
