How to Download the Latest Kindle Reader for PC
Can anyone tell me how to download the latest Kindle Reader for PC? I tried to open my existing Kindle for PC a little while ago and got a dialog box telling me "This version of the Kindle application has expired and can no longer be used. Please update to a newer version [as if I had a choice]." I looked all over Amazon's website and couldn't find the information that I needed.

I kept looking around on Amazon's site and finally found the page that I needed: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=201245960.

Thanks for the link GtrsRGr8
Not the smartest way to go about this by Amazon! At the very least, they should provide a link to the download page in the expiration message! |

Yes, I thought that I would go ahead and leave my post up even after I found the answer, so that it be in the archives and might help some other forum members who were having the same problem.
I thought the same thing, too, about how Amazon should have provided a link to the download page! |

Pretty easily found from Amazon's main page. Under the "Shop by Department" menu (left-hand side) is the "Apps and Resources" category where under the "Kindle Books and E-readers" subheading... is found a "Free Kindle Reading Apps" link. One click on the homepage and you're on the downloads page.
I agree a link in the warning message would have been appropriate, though. Last edited by DiapDealer; 03-22-2014 at 02:04 PM. |

Or an auto-update.

They have that. But many people disable it until they can get verification of what the new changes may entail before committing. Of course once a version expires, it's too late to re-enable the auto update.

Now I see it. I haven't looked at Kindle4PC in ages, so I probably forgot about this. |

That's the understatement of the week.
First, they pop up a warning that the program is about to expire. No mention of when that will happen; no advice about how to deal with it; no link for downloading a new version. Then, after it has actually expired, they pop another equally unhelpful message, and the program refuses to load. And if you do succeed in figuring out where to download the new version, and you go ahead and install it, it still might not work at first. That's because the previous version is still loaded in memory after it issued the above warning (even though you can't see it). And that clashes with the new version that you are now trying to run. (You can easily get past that simply by exiting the program and then re-loading it, but how are you supposed to know that?) As a software developer, I have designed and programmed numerous applications over the years. If they behaved as badly as this one, my clients would have ditched me years ago. Mike |

I just typed "Kindle for PC" into the search box at the top of the Amazon web site and it took me straight to it.

To me, the point is that you shouldn't even have to do a search to re-install the program. I'm not a programmer, but to me, it would make sense for amazon to at least include a link directly to the download site of the new program in the dialog box stating that a new version needs to be installed.

Look, there's two different issues being conflated here. One is that the "expiration" of the program could have been handled much, much better. I don't think anyone disagrees with that. The other is the suggestion that the download page for the software is hard to find on Amazon's site: which I believe to be patently false. If you are looking for it ... you will find it. |

... or maybe not. I'm in the UK and found the so-called Help page easily enough. However, when I try to follow their 2-step instructions, step 1 has a link which gives the error 'We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site.' No further help is offered. Poor show, Amazon, I say.
