Silbentrennung -- ich bin geschockt
Liebe Mobilereader,
nachdem ich für Seitenlayout und der Navigation eine etwas trickreiche, aber braucbare Lösung gefunden hatte, dachte ich mir, mache ich noch schnell eine schöne Silbentrennung und dann kann ich bald das erste ebook machen. Habe mir also ein kleines Trennwörterbuch geschrieben und in der HTML-Quelle in Wortgetüme wie »menschenverbindenden« ein paar optionale Trennzeichen (&.shy; ) reingehauen. Aber das Kindle ignoriert die. Die Calibre-Vorschau ignoriert sie auch und trennt nach irgendwelchen Algorithmen ohne Trennstrich. FBReader trennt mit Trennstrich, aber auch nach Algorithmen, z. B, »Miche-langelo«. Ich habe mal in eine von Calibre aus HTML erzeugte epub reingeschaut und festgestellt, daß es alle shy-s aus dem Quelltext rauslöscht. Etwas später habe ich auch den mutmaßlichen Grund erkannt, nämlich als ich die HTML-Datei -- mal mit mal ohne Konvertierung -- über kindle.com auf mein Gerät schickte. Das Gerät (oder das Amazon-Script) interpretiert sie als feste Bindestriche und zeigt sie an, auch wenn das Wort mitten in der Zeile steht. Meine erste Frage ist, hat es schon mal jemand geschafft, einem Kindle-ebook eine richtige Silbentrennung beizubringen? Die zweite, können andere Geräte standardkonforme Anweisungen für die Trennstellen adäquat ausführen? (Das shy-Symbol gehört doch zum xhtml-Standard, der wiederum eine Grundlage für epub ist, oder?) Und von wegen Vorurteile: Irgendwo im Forum hatte ich mal etwas provozierend geschrieben, die Dinger könnten nur Fließtext und Überschriften. Jetzt muß ich mich leider korrigieren. Ein Blick in den Wikipedia-Eintrag (Punkt 2) hätte dir den Schockzustand erspart oder ihn zumindest gelindert.
Der Kindle ist indirekt "entschuldigt". Er verwendet mit dem Mobi-Unterbau ein Rendering, das diesen Befehl noch nicht kannte. MOBI ist ein sehr robustes, aber inzwischen altes und sehr schlichtes Format. Bei ePub sind die Hersteller nicht entschuldigt (nein, Amazon ist es auch nicht wirklich ), denn Apple schafft es ja. Hierzu noch ein Artikel auf Englisch, dessen Autor nicht weniger konsterniert ist als du. Und, ja, ganz klar: Der Ball liegt bei den Geräteherstellern bzw. denen, die die Firmware programmieren. Das mag dich jetzt wirklich nicht trösten, aber stell dir vor, es ist 1894, und Benz hat seinen Motorwagen "Velo" auf den Markt gebracht, das dritte Fahrzeug mit immerhin schon neun Jahren Erfahrung seit der "Nummer 1". Der Wagen ist ein Einzylinder, bietet auch weiterhin nur zwei Leuten Platz, hat immer noch kein Verdeck und so gut wie keinen Stauraum. Damit war er von der Ausstattung her hoffnungslos jeder zeitgenössischen Pferdekutsche unterlegen. Ein typisches Fahrzeug für Early Adopters oder Technikverrückte, die einfach keinen Platz mehr für ein weiteres Pferd im Regal hatten. Und trotzdem war das Potenzial schon zu erkennen. Achja, wieder das leidige Thema Silbentrennung.
Zum Glück hab ich nen Kindle DX. Da sieht das Schriftbild auch ohne sowas gut aus |

Ich meinte damit ja vor allem, dass durch den größeren Bildschirm vom DX keine lästigen Lücken im Text entstehen, die auf 6-Zoll-Geräten durch das Fehlen von Blocksatz und Silbentrennung ja manchmal deutlich sichtbar sind.

Man kann keinen eReader bezahlen und dafür ein Notebook mit professionellem TeX-Prozessor erwarten...irgendwo muss ja der Preisunterschied herkommen.

Doch ganz sicher.
Denn wenn ich z.B. im Text eine Lücke von 5 Buchstaben im Blocksatz habe, macht es einen großen Unterschied wie ich diese Lücke aufteilen kann. Bei einem kleinen Display habe ich vielleicht 8, bei einem großen Display aber 14 Wörter in einer Zeile. So fällt das Strecken des Textes weniger auf. |
