Topic already discussed in other threads. If you did not realized, the changes are:
- new screen (fast refresh, superb resolution, better contrast)
- finger touch
- android 4.4

Since Max has status "Not available" I am worried whether it will be still well supported. Hope to get android 4.4 update...

- Fast refresh to be seen.
- No finger touch as on current Max with Mobius (finger touch perhaps on Max 2 in the 2nd ½ of the year)
- Data sheet from mentioned link says:
"Android 4.0.4 . Upgrade to Android 4.4 possible."

Seems that I got confused by the pre-order noise

Carta display is better of course, but it's yet to be seen how the original MAX processor can cope with the increased screen resolution; that means higher RAM & CPU usage on every page turn.

I would not worry about that in context of e-reader. The device has 1GB of RAM. It is not going to be a gaming platform, just render the text. See what the CPU can do alone https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6r_OUepAs10

I also checked other projects and it is common to drive high resolution from this CPU, for example http://www.imx6rex.com

It certainly makes a difference for rendering PDF pages. The more pixels need to be filled, the longer it takes to render the page.

The Max is one of the faster e-readers but I think for an Android device it could still be faster.

I am still wondering why they don't put in a dual or quad core cpu? I don't care if the battery only holds for 10.000 instead of 25.000+ page turns ...

Still the slowest (least responsive) part of the system is the eInk display. So maybe the business partners at Freescale realized that building them dual core processors will not improve anything. With the software as it is now, is there any second parallel process the device could be doing while waiting for the screen to update to speed up system responsiveness? I think not.

Having said that, the MAX as it is has an impressive page turn speed, at least in 1.8.x firmware. As I said, it is yet to be seen how this numbers will be kept or not with the higher resolution Carta display.

I believe that it is the software that is failing to replace the workflow with real paper, pen and books, not the number of cpu cores.

IMHO there are still slowness parts related to only the software processing time which would be eliminated by using faster CPU. I guess that the better CPU will add another 30-50 USD to the price so the marketing team decided that it is good enough with the lower CPU on average and they stick to it.

I think the main decision point is the battery life. Dual or quad core cpus need more power and would decrease the working hours.
