Important Voting Note - Bookpossum won't be here for the vote and with the nominations already at hand I offered her the opportunity to cast her votes early, as I would for any regular in a similar situation if possible. She voted for: Carlo Levi, John Banville, Ursula Le Guin, Virginia Woolf and Karen Blixen. Please keep this is mind when looking at vote totals. I cannot add them into the poll results so they will be added in manually once the poll is closed.

Babette's Feast is one of my favorite movies.
Watch the subtitled version rather than the one that's been dubbed. They try to adjust the translation to loosely match the mouth movements and it loses something, though it's still not bad. |

Thanks very much for the opportunity. Aside from the Le Guin book (which I have read twice, 45 years ago, and then 10 years later), all the authors were new to me, so it was interesting dipping into them to see if they might be a good read - I could not put Babette's Feast and The Emigrants aside until I had finished them several weeks ago
I'm looking forward to reading the Banville book. I've been meaning to read something by him for years; oddly enough, I had meant to start with The Sea, but The Untouchable hooked me from the first page. |

Ooops - I missed this vote completely (busy week). Shame, because I definitely would have voted for Babette's Feast. I adored the movie.
Not sure if I'll have time for Banville at this stage of the year. However, I'd definitely like to read him. Hmmm - found an audiobook. Maybe I'll go with that. |

A quick hello from New Zealand. I'll be home next week and get onto the Banville as soon as I can. A great list bfisher - thank you! And thanks to sun surfer for the chance to do my vote early. I have had only limited internet access while travelling around.

The discussion thread is up.
It does begin very well; I also really enjoyed the first few pages and similarly look forward to reading the rest. |
