David Eddings has passed away at 77
Awww.. One of my first and favorite fantasy authors. His Belgariad never left my list of favorite 5 stories. Rest in peace David Eddings and thank you.

That is a pity. One of my all-time favourite "modern" authors.

Sad loss. I enjoyed the Eddings books more than Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series.

Hm. I just read about his death on the amazon forums, while checking whether there already were ebook versions available of this guy's (comparable to Eddings, though somewhat darker) books..
Anyway, it's a shame he's passed away. Although the similarities between his different series at times made me despair, his books were entertaining enough to read. |

I guess I'll have to read The Belgariad series now.

That really breaks my heart. Eddings was my first fantasy author.... I still look back with a lot of love towards his books.

It really is a loss for the reading world. His characters were not the cardboard cutouts that you see so often in fantasy. They were people - always unique, yet consistent and believable within the context of their settings.
I've re-read his books many times. I noticed his wife Leigh had previously passed away. I wonder if the passing of his wife contributed, in the manner that is so often seen when one partner in a life-long relationship dies, to his demise. Sometimes for the survivor, getting over the loneliness, and heartache, is impossible. My condolences to the family and friends of David Eddings. |

They say you're never really 'dead' as long as someone holds you in their heart.
Possibly, the comments on this thread will encourage someone who hasn't read him, to do so. And so.......he will continue on........ Rest in Peace. |

This thread has encouraged me to pick up some of his books. I guess it's as good a way to honor him as any.
