recently got a nook
Hello folks!
I got a nook almost a month ago. I 'graduated' from first a Sansa e200 mp3 player with rockbox on it (5 books on that thing! I should be blind), then a Samsung YP-P2 (still my favorite PMP, I use it w/ a bluetooth stereo headset when riding my bike). I should also be blind from reading several books on the Samsung. Don't get me wrong, the YP-P2 (and P3) devices are great all around portable entertainment devices. Just not good for reading many pages of text. The e-ink screen is much better on my eyes! I'm hoping to have a long term relationship with my nook and hope it keeps getting better with firmware updates. I've read a lot of the pros and cons people have about the nook and I pretty much agree with most of them. One thing that I wish it had that I haven't seen anybody complain about is the ability to annotate bookmarks. It would make it so much easier to go back through to find my highlighted sections. If they could do that and then allow you to upload those annotated bookmarks (and highlighted sections) and read the book on your computer with them in place I would be even happier with my nook. |

Welcome to MR, Vespa, and congratulations on your Nook.
I love my YP-P2, also, but, I've never tried to read a book on it. I listen to music or a book when I work in the yard and have it set to stop and let phone calls through on my headset. I may have to figure out how to read books on it, too. Have fun exploring the forums and just ask if you have any questions. |

I've seen the nook forum and looks better than nooktalk.net which is rarely touched. I would have thought there'd be a raging nook forum or twelve by now. I did much research before I bought my nook and I have no buyer's remorse at all. |

Movies ain't too shabby either. I use a freeware converter from the sourceforge.org website and it works well. It really isn't that bad to read books on and plus side is you can do plain ol' text (that's it) but no external light needed. Your eyes will water for long reading sessions versus an e-ink reader but it's still amazing. the anythingbutipod site has links to directions on how to flash it and I've done it on three players with no problem what-so-ever. Danger factor is very very low and steps are simple. |
