My Clara think it's clearer than paperwhite

Think my Clara is better and clearer than my paperwhite 11th Gen. Cannot get lighting exact though. Seems it's upside down, so as is paperwhite left, Clara right. Sorry it got posted twice

Personally, I prefer the look of the one with a slightly darker background, but whether that's your paperwhite or your Clara, I don't know.

Font choice is probably making more of a difference than the screens.

Either of them looks better than a cheap paperback page IMO

The slightly darker is the paperwhite. Does not matter what font I use the Clara feel still comes out clearer, I feel Have repeated the same results in any fonts I choose. Have repeated this time and time again, same results. I personally think its due to the colour e readers have a slightly darker background.

It maybe also, like comparing say a 25 inch tv to say a 40", the 25" is sharper as image scale is reduced and looks sharper. The 40" spreads out the light and image scale is larger and more spread out

When I compare displays, I find it is nice to eliminate as many variables as possible: same page, same font, same font size, same line spacing, ...

IMO

With no light, the clara colour is darker, so the light needs to be turned up brighter to give same intensity

Yes would be nice, but not always possible as both have different fonts. Kindle does not appear to have a soacing setting and of course on a smaller screen everything is scaled down. Is not the kobo screen 1072 x 1448, whereas the kindlevpaperwhite less?

You can install your own fonts on both the Kobo and the Paperwhite. And Kindles do have a line spacing setting with three options.

Of course one can't get them to look totally the same, but it's possible to get them to look pretty similar.

Agreed. And it's possible to get the the fonts to be the same or similar weight.

Both have totally different fonts. Would have to download the fonts amazon use. And even the screen size plays a part, just like you cannot compare a TV say 30 inch to 65 inch. The image scale is different and picture is much crisper then 65 inch but smaller and brighter. The 65 inch light spread out more and duller, but easier to see detail

You can side load fonts on the Kindle and the Kobo. You can also adjust the weight of each font. On the Kobo you can also set the line-height and margin. So you can use the same font , similar weight, similar line height, and similar margins.

Just side load the same font on both and select that font on both and adjust to be as close as possible.

Still think the clara bring smaller would still come out on to. Smaller screens are brighter and sharper than larger screens, and it's due to smaller image scale 1072 x 1448 and think this is the screen res of the clara whereas sure the kindle is something like 800x600 or so, but could be wrong. A better test would be comparing to the libra, both almost sane size screen.

Not interested in any further testing as it was my observation. Anyone who wants to test go for it.

Can tell you with both lights off. The camera picks up the grain on the Clara and is darker, but once both lights are on are fine

Or use a font such as JSWolf's modification of Charis SIL ( see the Improved Charis SIL with smallcaps thread.

For what it may be worth, I compared a Clara Colour to a Paperwhite 10th gen. (6" screen and one of the worst Paperwhite screens IMNSHO) both using the font files from the CharInk6 NoWeight.zip file in the first message of the referenced thread. After adjusting the brightness, size, line spacing, etc. to make them look as close as possible, the Clara Colour looked better than the Paperwhite but see the earlier comments about that generation of Paperwhite screen.

I think the clara colour like the HD bw both use 1072 x 1448, whereas the Kindle is less, kobo use a higher res screen over the kindles, even with the Libra colour and bw versions
