DIC BGL Mystery
Hi, I'm trying to convert my BGL dictionary to a pocketboot format, but the pocketbook dictionary converter(more versions) keeps crushing(tried it even in windows, didn't work either). It just shuts down after the convert.exe dict.xdxf pt order.
I would love to have the dictionary in my reader, it would greatly help me with my studies, but I've been struggling with it for days and not even one of the many instructions found on the internet have helped me. So is there anyone who could solve me the mystery? I have linux mint, I can run Dictionary converter on WINE, also Linguae, I have dictconv, also pyglossary and still no luck Oh, forgot about the Stardict, but it was also an enormous not so successful attempt to install koreader and run the dictionary as a stardict dictionary. I have the newest firmwer I believe(W626.5.12.530). The dictionary is here: Code:

Did you create the collates.txt, keyboard.txt and morphems.txt files yourself?

No, I cpied them from one of the Pocketbook dictionary converter, is there anything wrong with them? I admit I didn't even open them, I supposed they would be ok since they're from the converter.
Edit: (of course you cannot see them, so if you want to, i can post them here i guess, but they are from the PB dictionary converter, should be fine) |

I think the keyboard.txt file is fine, but the collates.txt can be improved, and the morphems.txt should be completely replaced (it is a copy of the English morphemes file). Still, they won't stop the conversion program from running, just produce a less useful dictionary.
I'll try converting with my version of converter.exe (older version without cygwin libraries) and let you know how it goes. |

Would be wonderful. Thanks.
Still bothers me that I'm not able to do it and I don't know why (yes, I hate unsolved mysteries) so I welcome any suggestions how to make it work, what worked for other people... I'm opened to any experiment |

I dimly recall trying to work with BGL format dictionaries before, and after doing some searching, I see it was five years ago based on the following post: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...&postcount=130
So, you have to convert BGL to .dict, then to .xdxf, and finally to the PocketBook format. The converter.exe program doesn't work with BGL files itself. |

I tried that. Didn't work. Probably somewhere in the process I make mistake or there are not compatible conversions or something just goes wrong and it shuts the converter.exe down even when I feed it with the file converted to xdxf. That's why I seek help here, I've tried to convert it over and over whole weekend and few more hours this week but it just doesn't work.

I didn't try it myself because I don't have linguae working anymore (I don't think I used it after that test five years ago). If you upload the xdxf file somewhere, then I or someone else can try that. Chances are there are problems with that file. Maybe some lines are too long, or... The BGL file I tried many years ago converted with those tools without problem.

Sounds possible(the long lines). Sorry fr the long waiting, I got so busy I completely forgot to upload it. There are two files, the dict is the converted by myself, the brpt-en is downloaded from the internet. I tried to convert it too but also with no success. Thanks in advance for your help.

I tried both files, and they worked. The big one took a minute or two to pack. I used the converter program that was released in 2009. I also tried with the latest version (with the cygwin runtime libraries), and that one crashed on me. So, you should download the one attached in that post I linked to above. I then just used that converter.exe file with the locales language files that came with the cygwin version of the converter program.
I looked inside the dict.xdxf file, and it looked like the XML was malformed. There were lots of Code:

Well, at least I know it can work, thanks a lot, unfortunately it didn't change the crushing problem here. I already had the 2009 version, I tried every possible version I found on internet and it just keeps crushing, tried to run it as root, tried to move the files to a folder, doublechecked what I write (converter.exe dict.xdxf pt), no mistakes, but it just keeps crushing. i even tried to run it on my sisters computer which has windows, it crushed. Could I ask you for a favor, could you upload it somewhere so I could download it? It doesn't need to be there for a long time, I will keep trying to solve my mystery crushing, so I could do it myself, but for now I would really use the dictionary.

The second argument to the converter.exe has to be the name of a directory where the language files are. In my case, I copied the 2009 version of converter.exe, the xdxf files, and the locales directory from the most recent converter zip file into the same directory. Within the locales directory were many subdirectories for languages, including locales\pt for Portuguese. With these files, I ran the following command in the Windows command shell:
Code:
converter.exe dict.xdxf locales\pt I've managed to just squeeze the two dic files onto my ISP file sharing site, and I'll message the URL to you. I'll have to remove them soon, since I have almost no room left. |

I have the pt directory right there in the converter directory, so I put there only pt. converter.exe dict.xdxf pt, should work but it doesn't, tried to create loc directory and put the pt directory there and modify the command, but it didn't work. It just crushes. Not sure why. Any linux(mint) user who has some experience?

Are you running the converter using wine?
