Has somebody come up with a working workaround for synchronizing audio and text in the current EPUB standard? I haven't bumbed into an EPUB with text-to-speech feature. I would like to do an e-book with audio synchronized to text but I guess I just need to wait for EPUB 3 standard.
I'm really looking forward that SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) will be supported by EPUB 3. Do you think reading devices will be able have support for this feature in the EPUB 3 standard? I guess new devices will be but are the companies willing to do firmware updates for older reading devices for full EPUB 3 support. I doubt but I hope so. Here's a link how SMIL is used in EPUB 3 standard: http://idpf.org/epub/30/spec/epub30-mediaoverlays.html Here's a link for specification of SMIL: http://www.w3.org/TR/SMIL/ |
