Sigil stopped working in my Linux machine

Hi, I am using the repos Sigil version, 1.9.2 in my Mint 21 (Ubuntu 22.04) machine and it was working fine till I started getting this error

It has to be related with my video card (AMD Radeon) and the amdgpu-driver and all the drivers that come with it. In other 2 machines with Mint 21, Sigil works great as usual. I've tried updating de video card drivers to its last version but I still get the same message.
Thought about installing flatpak's last version but it would install a lot of files from the org.kde.Platform packages (700Mb). Similar case if I follow the manual installation steps.


I posted this in Sigil's Github and Kevin H kindly suggested either updating libGL and Qt to avoid the problem or building my own copy of Sigil. Both things are beyond my knowledge and I know this is not a problem directly related to Sigil but I would like to keep using the repos version in order not to mess up too much with my system. Is there any chance that you could direct me in any direction in order to solve this incompatibility between Sigil 1.9.2 and my video card?

I know it seems silly, but have you rebooted the machine in question? There are times when nothing else will work on Linux. Especially after video driver updates.

That is never a silly idea. Rebooting when video drivers, kernels are involved, it's a must. Thanks for the reminder but unfortunately I had done it

I see a lot of hits with buggy video drivers when searching on that error. Does the command glxinfo run successfully? If not installed, I believe it's part of the mesa-utils package in Ubuntu repos. Might as well see if glxgears runs properly as well.

It does run. It's curious how other 2 computer with very basic video cards run sigil without any issues.
The amdgpu driver for Ubuntu 22.04 took a while to come out and it came with a few bugs already. It does fix many things, but I do miss being able to use Sigil in my computer.

The 2 drivers mentioned in the error radeonsi and swrast are in my "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri". Guess the problem comes from the mesa version installed?

libegl-mesa , libgl1-mesa-dri, libglapi-mesa (and others) are on 23.0.4-0ubuntu1
libegl-amdgpu-mesa, libgl1-amdgpu-mesa, libglapi-amdgpu-mesa (and others) are on 1:23.2.0.50601 (my amdgpu version)

It would seem so. It seems like it's attempting to load the 23.2.0-devel version and failing, and then trying to fallback to the software renderer (swrast) and failing also.

Interestingly enough, the i965 driver (which is from the ubuntu repos) is in my "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri".
I created a link to ""usr/lib/dri/" in case it could help. But it didn't

You could try temporarily moving/renaming your Sigil preferences directory ~/.local/share/sigil-ebook/sigil and see if that makes a difference. I doubt it, but QWebEngine does cache some stuff in that folder. Sigil will recreate the prefs folder on the next launch.

Just the Radeon ppa. The devel version, 23.2.0, is the one from that ppa (though in the package manager does not show as a dev version)

Had tried that before and new install as well, but you're right, didn't help

You might want to try running qtdiag to see how Qt sees OpenGL. It should come with the Qt on that system.
