I really need to start going outside more at night. I miss all of the cool things going on around me.

Earlier this week, one of the top 10 headlines on the BBC web site was; "TV star Dec misses England goal". Basically, this was a story about the fact that a very second rate, intellectually-challenged TV presenter had not seen England's goal in the World Cup due to a power cut in the area he was watching the match. IN WHAT UNIVERSE COULD THAT POSSIBLY BE CONSIDERED NEWSWORTHY? Unfortunately, in the celebrity obssessed, lowest common denominator culture we find ourselves, stories like this could well be considered worthy of greater visibility than alerting readers/viewers to a potentially fascinating natural phenomenon. |

I've watched a few lunar eclipses, but they always scare me because I always fear the moon is being eaten by a dragon-god and wonder if earth will be next.
What I would really like to see is a full solar eclipse. The last time we had one in our area, I was on the other side of the planet and missed it. |
