Got a replacement, same stuck pixel at the same spot (or something under the substrate that's reflecting the back light).

Manufacturing defect?

I think you just got unlucky. The first on I picked up also had a dead pixel on the top right but my exchanged unit is free from dead pixels.

Okay, but that seems like a lame response, though. You would think the manager would want to find one that was good for you. Do you like it otherwise? (Probably not enough time to really know.) It looks like the support pages for the 7.8" are directly tied to the Glowlight 3, so I've got a feeling it's using the same software release. Which might be a bad thing (it'll work like the 3), or a good thing — they might come out with a working release for the 3 based on further development on the 7.8.

I agree, could be trying to pawn me off to another store. Or maybe he genuinely thinks their entire box of units is faulty, which is a shame.

The software updates immediately upon connecting to wireless, to Version 50.0.114 / 5.0.4.30. Plus it has Bluetooth now.

I think suggesting another store is a good idea. He probably has a rule about opening these things before they're paid for. Most stores do. And if you got two with the same problem from the same store it's likely to be a bad batch.
