Docx output forces tab before Headings styles
For some reason, when I convert a document to docx, then open it with LO Writer and invoke one of the Heading styles (Heading 1, Heading 2, etc.), a tab is inserted at the begging of the line. This happens only on docx documents that I have created by converting epub and pdf to docx in Calibre.

You would need to ask LO developers why it does that. If you can get a clear answer from them, I will take a look.

I've never seen that behaviour.
I've no tabs anywhere. Do Save As in odt after opening a docx. Do check the styles your LO Writer is using. You can create a new default template. 1) Search and replace all Tabs with one space. 2) Search and replace all two spaces with one, till done. 3) Switch to Regex mode 4) Replace $[ ] with nothing (deletes trailing space) 5) Replace ^[ ] with nothing (deletes leading space) 6) Replace ^$ with nothing (deletes empty paragraphs) 7) Cancel Regex mode 8) Set styles, links, anchors as desired. Only indent with margins in styles. Never add blank lines to space paragraphs. Use margin before/after. Ebooks may have tabs, multiple spaces, blank lines etc due to inept formatting. No Word or LO Writer document or ebook should ever have: Tabs Multiple spaces (only ever one) Trailing space Leading space Blank lines |

Is the OP confusing Indent with Tab (the key many of us antiques, used to start a Paragraph)?

Certainly the default style may have an indent, which isn't a tab. That's easily set to 0 in the Style editor, which it should be for flushed right or Centred headings, or if you want the heading at the left margin.
Indeed, for an indent on first line of a paragraph, edit the style, which maps to CSS when converting docx to epub in Calibre, never enter a Tab. A tab key should only be used to navigate forms, or enter an indent in programming, never used in documents / wordprocessing. Aside Edit: I wonder can I make Tab and Shift Tab in LO Writer simply navigate next & prior heading instead of inputting? Last edited by Quoth; 05-22-2023 at 07:23 AM. |
