A preorder beginning in December and first shipping now is pretty harsh. Wonder if they've got any perorder customers left? Would be interesting to see a review. Maybe one of the MR readers here will pick it up and share there thoughts.

This is the device that was originally causing a stir when called the CrunchPad and then embroiled in legal fireworks as the partnership split apart. When pre-orders began I think it was due to ship in December. The controversy and an issue with the screen pushed it back first to February then to end March.

Why people should buy JooJoo instead of iPAD?

Uhm, bigger screen (can read a full-size PDF), you can actually browse the real internet (it has Flash), instead of the mobile versions of sites, you can watch Hulu, Netflix (can you?), etc.,...
I like the screen size, although the bezel is a bit thick. Curious what type of screen they are using. Also, it seems a little porky and thick at the waste (0.7"). Don't like the Atom idea. Does anyone know what the OS is? Browser-based something..., wish it was Android. Like the few glimpses of the UI design though. "Up to 5hrs" battery life may be a deal-killer for many. JooJoo vs iPad is down to preference for size of screen and open vs controlled and limited environment, but a more interesting comparison will be:
Why should people buy JooJoo instead of WePad? Assuming a firm launch date is announced for the WePad on April 12th as expected, it looks like being a lighter device with the same form factor with more features and a better (claimed) battery life than the JooJoo. With the three month delay in launch the JooJoo may have missed the boat... Graham |

https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ighlight=wepad https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...ighlight=wepad I suppose technically the JooJoo is the 'original', given that it was widely hyped last year when it was called the Crunchpad, and has actually shipped first. And that ignores all previous tablets, of course. The JooJoo has the form factor I want, where my main concern is reading A4 or Letter pdfs at full size: the iPad and the Notion Ink Adam are too small for that. But we need more details about the JooJoo's 'browser-based' OS. Can you 'browse' to documents held locally? Does everything have to be in the Cloud? Is the device useless when you haven't got an internet connection? At the moment, setting aside the large format eInk readers for the moment, the WePad looks like it's hitting my mark the best. JooJoo, iPad, wePad... I'm putting my money on the Adam, or at least waiting to see to see what's out on the market in July/August.

Uhhhh...iPad is just a dumbed down slate computer. Same for wePad and JooJoo and all the rest built for Android or Chrome. Slates have been around for a looooong time. And considering that the JooJoo is now shipping and the iPad doesn't until April 12th, it isn't even the "original" dumb slate.

The iPad is a computer with an OS that has applications which run locally. The JooJoo pad is a dedicated web browsing device only. You can only run web based applications.. it will NOT work if you don't have an Internet connection. So there is a major difference than just the screen size. BOb |
