Metadata editor: Custom column order
@Kovid,
I am using more than one library with different setup's in custom columns depending on the manner of that library. For that I have often the desire for a different order in custom columns listed in edit metadata. Is it possible to add a option for local definition instead of a global one for metadata_edit_custom_column_order? Best regards, DD |

Tweaks cannot be made per library, they are by nature, global. And IMO this use case is not important enough to add a non-tweak setting for it.

Taking into mind what Kovid said.
Have you experimented with the variations of: Preferences:Behavior: Edit Metadata (single) layout ? |

@Divingduck - I had a similar issue, I eventually devised a solution whereby I do metadata editing via the booklist.
The View Manager PI operates at library level, it lets you define Views (many per library) which define what columns are displayed in the book list and there relative sequence, and what columns (and direction) are used for sorting. For each library I defined 1 or 2 views with columns (built-in and custom) in a sequence convenient for metadata editing. A number of enhancements have been made in recent times ('gems' by chaley) that make editing in the book list 'easier', these include access to the long-text and tag editors, '-' to clear numbers and dates and '=' to set dates to Now. You can't change Comments in the book list, so I use a custom column instead - Description/#description. Very occasionally, I use the single metadata edit dialogue to access the Cover related buttons, and the Formats box features. I'm a spreadsheet user since Visicalc, and I have always loathed filling out forms - so editing in the book list suits me perfectly BR |

@kovid,
thanks for your answer. Exactly that answer I have feared, but I thought it's better to ask first You are right, it is more a special case. @theducks, Yes I have. Unfortunately I have a lot of custom columns. It is a more ergonomically issue to take care that informations have a specific order for manual input. I can't change the source for that kind of data. @BetterRed, thanks for this suggestion. As I do not use this PI I need to take a look on it first. Last time I took a look on it is long time ago. I haven't a issue with presentation/sorting metadata in the book list view, that is manageable for me. It is more a problem of input the data in a economic way without searching and jumping into fields in an input mask if I have different library setups. The list view is for me not a good tool for input a huge amount of metadata. Anyway. My guess is, that I need to find an other and better solution for my special case. I am on the way doing this. The good thing is that most of that data are listed in the extended file properties. The worse thing is, that I am not able to get them out with power shell right now. As soon I have manage that, I will do the whole stuff with CLI, what at the end is hopefully a much better solution for what I like to do. Thanks for your input.
