I remember when he first hit the scene with the Wizard's First Rule. It wasn't exactly my cup of tea, but he certain had a lot of success and made a big impact.

A lot of people loved Sword of Truth. I wasn't one of them, but it's impossible to deny he was influential in the genre. For the record, though: he didn't write fantasy. He said so himself in an interview in 2003.

I've actually have Wizard's First Rule in my library holds so I can re-read the series. It's an enjoyable series for the first dozen books, if you can ignore the (wrong-headed, IMO) philosophising that is stuffed in.

I found the Sword of Truth Series increasingly toxic and needed brain bleach. So never read anything since.

I heard that fantasy writer Terry Goodkind died from Covid. I've only seen this from one source, by the way, and I haven't looked very hard beyond that one source.
Many people loved his fantasy novels and a number of people didn't care for them at all. So - for the record - for those individuals who loved his writings and the world and characters he created in his fantasy novels, my condolences to his fans. I know this is one fantasy writer who will be missed by a number of people. I'm just saying. |

I loved The Sword of Truth series and am gutted to hear of Terry's passing.
While some of the philosophising in the books was rather blatant I don't feel it detracted from the story, I read it in the context of the story and didn't try and apply it to real life, probably why it didn't bother me. Terry's characterisations were fantastic imo and that's what has always drawn me in to any series. He will be sadly missed RIP |

Finally my saved passwords on my computer had a hiccup so I haven’t bothered logging in for awhile but RIP Terry Goodkind. I read several of his books as a kid and loved them but later in the series he did begin coming off a bit dystopian Ayn Randish. That said he will always be one of my favorite Fantasy authors.

His personal arrogance offended me so I never read past the first novel (which was good). I do sympathize with his family and fans for his loss.

I was just looking at the summary they have for "Wizard's First Rule" at our library:
