Cool convert straight quotes to curly quotes
option to have calibre automatically convert straight quotes to curly quotes. Also handles em/en-dashes and ellipses. Found under 'Look & Feel' in the conversion options

kovid....for some reason i cannot find this option where it's stated it's supposed to be located.

That took me awhile to figure out, too. It took me remembering something I'd read about "smart quotes" before the penny dropped.
