Viewer slow first read and what are the shortcuts
Today oct 19 i started using 4.1 on linux. And i Grumble on the viewer, it take minutes to read a ebook for the first time ! Is there a way he can read the whole library during the night ? second if i use escape and customize the keyboard shortcuts it does not show what the shortcuts are now. Trying to find them in the manual give no result

You want it to Preload all the books.
But that would use a LOT of disk space, when all you really will look at is a few. Obviously you don't harken back to the days of the original PC-XT (8080 processor) This is FAST |

First time a book is 'read', it is converted/unpacked into calibre's cache folder. The unpacked version will stay there until calibre's BTS cache cleanup kicks in. I don't know what the cleanup thresholds are, and I've not seen spotted any related settings.

I've never come across a book that takes minutes to open, if the viewer is really taking that long then there is something else going on in your system. Typical novel sized books on a decent system open in a second or two at most.
Das Kapital which has a book legnth of 26110 opened in 7.36 seconds for th first time on my system and in under a second on subsequent opens. |

On the same system with calibre 3 it was "normal" Is it possible to install version 3 together with 4 ? Last edited by aardbewoner; 10-20-2019 at 05:12 AM. Reason: question added |

first check the staartup time of the viewer alone without any book. Then run
calibre-debug -w file.epub which will print out the amount of time it took to prepare the book. And sure see the linux download page for how to install isolated calibre installs as well as installing previous versions. |

Yeah so as I suspected it has nothing to do with book preparing speed but Qt WebEngine is simply slow to start on your system. Not much I can do about that I'm afraid.

I used CCleaner to disable them. Now they seem to open faster. I tried opening atleast 50 books. Problems seems to be resolved. |
