Hawthorne, Nathaniel: Twice-Told Tales Complete Collection. v2. 14 Jan 2023

In these sketches and tales, Hawthorne shows us scenes of New England in colonial times, and in the nineteenth century, written in wonderfully descriptive prose. Many of these stories have the tone of fables or allegories, ranging from light-hearted to dark and sinister, with touches of the supernatural to add some chills.

The stories in the “Twice-Told Tales” series had all been previously published in magazines and annuals, hence the name. The first volume was published in 1837, a second volume in 1842. (The 2-volume set was published in 1851.) The Snow Image and Other Twice-Told Tales, third in the series and published in 1852, was the last such collection published during Hawthorne’s lifetime.

This ebook includes the Prefaces written by Hawthorne in 1851, and the appendix presents reviews of Twice-Told Tales by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Edgar Allen Poe.

Available with Drop Caps or Up Caps.

=============
Nathaniel Hawthorne (né Hathorne; July 4, 1804 – May 19, 1864) was an American novelist, biographer, and short story writer. He is seen as a key figure in the development of American literature for his tales of the nation's colonial history. His fiction works are considered part of the Romantic movement and, more specifically, dark romanticism. Many of his works feature moral metaphors with an anti-Puritan inspiration, centering on the inherent evil and sin of humanity.

Hawthorne’s best-known works include The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables.

=============
The contents of this book were first published 1830 ~ 1850. This book is in the public domain world-wide because the author died more than 100 years ago, and it was published prior to 1927.

I have uploaded updated book, with correction of titling error, and some other minor format tweaks.

Thank you to Thalassa for pointing out that error.

My apologies for not catching that!
