Google Playstore won't run on Icarus Illumina
After rooting, enabling SU and installing Google Playstore with tool provided in "T6x ToolKit" (provided by NightBoy in another thread) on my Icarus Illumina E653 I run into the following problem:
Google Playstore does not show up under Apps. After additionally installing latest Google Playstore App (com.android.vending-5.2.13-80321300-minAPI9.apk) I can call up the App but get the error message "check your connection and try again". Of course the device is connected to the internet via WiFi. Problem persists, even if I use a different google account. When I check accounts management I see both profiles with Sync Error message. Any ideas what might cause this problem? |

i installed google play store using the same tool a few days ago and it worked flawlessly.
did you install nova launcher in order to see all installed apps? where did you get the com.android.vending-5.2.13-80321300-minAPI9.apk from? what firmware version do you currently have on your device? |

Firmware 1.0.0.-2014121109 After a fresh start with firmware package sent to me by Icarus less than a week ago, I basically start with a clean slate (far less apps than were on the device when bought two weeks ago). After installing nova launcher and using the T6 Toolkit provided by NightBoy, I see that PlayStore v. 4.1.1. has been installed. When I launch the programme, I am asked for my google account credentials. Checking the newly established account (settings-account management) reveals a sync error. However, checking the google account from the pc, reveals Android device was synced. Calling up PlayStore leads to the infamous "No connection - try again" screen. However, if I use the search function in spite of the error message, I am supplied with search suggestions which proves that the PlayStore app is online. I have tried the usual clear cache, clear data, remove accounts.db from root, change WiFi settings - all to no avail. I have run out of ideas. Of course I can use the little racoon programme for downloading apps from google playstore which are free. However, I have a problem if i have to pay. |

same problem here:
Illumina E653 - Firmware 1.0.0.-2014121109 rooted with t6x tool and installed the playstore with the tool - and nova launcher. tried to install the playstore in the newest version(xda forum) - with and without root - all the same. playstore shows: no connection <retry> but has autocomplete in the searchbar. of course internet connection in the browsre works, after signing in the playstore it accepted my account and calender is synced too. every try with a fresh factory reset. i hate it. and in the android devicemanager:google.com/android/devicemanager the device doesnt apperar. i think its blocked by google |

fully unrooted device.
factory reset. only adding wifi and the google account in the account manager - still sync error. may be the firmware is buggy (we have the same) but the update cant be done because: server threw an exception - great! |

Well, that may be the case. But I got my Illumina only on Feb. 11th. One day later I downloaded a firmware update from the Icarus internet site available at that time. Result: the device got "bricked". Apart from the USB link-up nothing worked any more. With the invaluable help from NightBoy I got it running again. A day later Icarus provided a rescue package, which I subsequently used for a "factory reset" and miraculously removed the faulty firmware update from its site. Since then nothing is available any longer. Have you tried the Icarus Support for solving the problem?

I was a bit more patient, waited for four days for a reaction on the service ticket I submitted before I called them and threatened to return the device. After that they were quite co-operative. May be they will come up with a fix. Please keep me posted.

their answer:
"Perhaps on our FAQ there is a solution faq.icarusreader.com There is another way to install the google app, perhaps there is something wrong," aka we don't care yes, there is this answer there - but I want the play store http://faq.icarusreader.com/index.ph...ght=play+store |

common problem
Play store's "no connection" issue is not related to the firmware or rom.
I had this problem in other devices and it was easy to fix. Installing Play store's apk file could be the main cause. to fix this problem: 1-Remove all apk files which you copied to /system/app/ and reinstall Play Store using the toolkit. 2-Open Settings-> App -> Downloaded -> Google Play services 3-Clear cache, Clear data then Uninstall. 4-Open Settings-> App -> Downloaded -> Google Play Store 5-Clear cache, Clear data then Uninstall. 6-Open Settings-> App -> ALL 7-Clear cache & Clear data --> Google Account Manager, Google Calender Sync, Google Contacts Sync, Google Play Store & Google Service Framework 8-Reboot your device. 9-Install Nova launcher using the toolkit and run play store Keep in mind, the stock launcher does not show all apps. That is why you have to install a custom launcher. You can also open your browser and open a URL to the play store to run the play store without installing a custom launcher. |

i did not copy anything to system/app
i tried to follow your solution: 1. i deleted system/app googlecalendar, googlecontacts, googlelogin, googleservicesframework and phonesky apk files 2. there is only the supersu app unter "downloaded" even in "all" there is no googleplayservides 3. n/a 4. there is no playstore unter "downloaded, in "all" there is one 5. clear cache and data, uninstall is unavailible there is only disable 7. i cleared cache and data at: googleaccount, gcalendar, gcontacts, gplaystore, gserviceframework, 8. ok 9. ok still "no connection" in playstore |

Don't remove all apks since you have to remove google apps' data. Anyway start from step 2. |
