The woman didn't even pause or glance around, her eyes determinedly focused on the car waiting at the end of the driveway, when a burning fragment of paper, the autographed title page of her former lover's embarrassingly revealing memoir, floated past her, instead allowing the warm heat on her back, the crackling and popping sounds, and the dappled flickering glow around her to confirm that the last vestiges of her old life were fully engulfed in a cleansing conflagration.

As the elevator doors closed, metaphorically as well as physically representing the last time he would ever see her, she threw him one, final, coy smile, a smile that seemed to say volumes, but that clearly started with the single phrase: "Check your pocket again."
